RR Merlin engine got famous at the Battle of Britain, powering the British Spitfires. It was the primary reason why the Spit got real succesful against the German Luftwaffe. Housin more than 1.000 horsepower, the Merlin was miracously potent.

After the BoB the Merlin had seen many improvements as the American started to produce their own version of the Merlin. The American Mustang ran with these engines and did a great job in protecting Allied bombers over the skies of Germany.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin can be named as the technology that saved Britain from German Occupation. The Spitfires that were decorated with this engine had great success against its German counterparts.

The Merlin was so successful that it was produced in the USA under license in Packard Factory. These engines were later installed in P-51 Mustangs, which further proved to be a huge success.
